Maritime Heritage Centre

The Maritime Heritage Centre opened in 2004 after a community effort of mammoth proportions spearheaded by the Daybreak Rotary Club. Our Mission Statement is "To promote educational, and social activities alongside the collection, and preservation of artifacts. To foster an appreciation of west coast maritime heritage and provide space for the community to gather."

The building houses the BCP 45 – a restored wooden seine fishing vessel that was formerly on the Canadian $5 bill and plays an important role in the social history of Indigenous commercial fishers. It is a Nationally Recognized Historic Monument due to its history and the impressive state of the boat post-restoration.

The Maritime Heritage Centre is recognized as a local gathering space where community members come together to celebrate milestones, remember loved ones, and share experiences.
